Support Bushfire relief with your purchases

Everybody seems to know about Victoria’s Darkest Day now. We had the worst bushfires in our history, which came very close to Melbourne and killed too many people and left lots homeless. Whole communities have been destroyed. The most destructive complex of fires is still burning, and despite days of calmer weather, is still threatening towns. Those families and communities need money to clean up and rebuild.

You can donate to the Red Cross bushfire appeal, but if you have already done that, you might like to consider buying things with your bushfire relief dollar.

SitePoint, who are the sponsors of our Medblog Awards, and have come up with an amazing offer. They are a great resource for those who are looking to expand their web-programming and design skills. Furthermore, as I am married to one of them, I know them pretty well, and they are a great bunch of people.

If your tastes run to art, there are a lot of artists selling pieces to raise money. I’d like to particularly mention Crikey, which is an alternative media outlet in Australia. Their cartoonist, First Dog on the Moon, is pretty funny. Some of his recent bushfire, and Obama-themed cartoons are available for $25. If you pay $100 you get the choice of his whole back-catalogue. All prints are signed, and 100% of the money goes to relief. Check them out in the Crikey Shop.
