The year gone and the year to come

2008 has been a year of reinventions. At the start of the year I was a surgical registrar, mother and PhD student. I am still those things, but I am now a blogger and writer, as well, although it is very self-conscious to say that.

Applequack 2008 Hits and Memories

I started this blog in 2007, but I only posted 4 articles in that year. I wrote 108 articles in 2008, and I am pretty proud of that effort. My most popular articles (according to analytics) were:

  1. Reviews of Mac Project Management Software
  2. How to use your iPhone to keep a patient List
  3. Medical software I couldn’t do without
  4. 20 ways surgeons should use Evernote
  5. How to prepare a medical slide presentation
  6. 12 really useful Mac calender utilities
  7. Comparison of Papers and Bookends
  8. Top iPhone wallpapers for Doctors
  9. iPhone timer boosts productivity
  10. Anatomy software for Macs
  11. Options for personal study wikis on the Mac

I started this blog because I couldn’t find any mac relevant information for doctors out there. Over the last year stacks more people have starting using macs, and a fledgling community has grown up here. I have even had some requests for information and reviews, which makes me really happy. I would like to thank those of you who read this blog regularly, and I hope you continue to participate.

And for 2009

Well 2009 is off to a great start. I have been chosen as a finalist in the 2009 Medblog awards. Thanks to those who nominated me. I am up against some much celebrated and organised blogs, so I am chuffed to have made the cut.

Edited to add: Voting is now open for the Medblog awards. Please visit the site and vote in all the categories so we get as fair a vote as possible.

On a personal front, 2009 will be The Year of the Thesis. I submit my PhD thesis this year, all going well. So I guess that will mean a few more posts focussed on writing, studying and planning. I will throw in some clinically relevant stuff as well.

If you have some thoughts for topics you would like to see covered in 2009, please contact me.
