Donate your computer’s time to science geekprojects!

Got free time on your computer? Do you have a desktop that remains connected while you are at work? Consider the greater good and donate its spare processor power to scientific research, with BOINC. This is the program that brings you SET@home and others. You can select what project to donate your computer’s time to. In this way, you control the security of the system by deciding what providers you trust.

The projects are wide and varied. The medically-oriented projects seem to involve protein folding and epidemiology modelling (such as the spread of malaria). There are also maths, astronomy and climate change projects to participate in.
